Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American TV reporter, journalist and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. In Washington she was named general correspondent by NBC News two year later. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office by 1988. Then, in 1992 she was made Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget and the arms control. Mitchell traveled along with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan on numerous occasions to attend summits and discuss issues like the Iran Contra scandal.
